Keywords

UniProtKB entries are tagged with keywords (KW) that can be used to retrieve particular subsets of protein sequence entries. There are 10 categories of keywords:

› Biological process
› Cellular component
› Coding sequence diversity
› Developmental stage
› Disease
› Domain
› Ligand
› Molecular function
› Post-translation modification
› Technical term

By default, searching the keywords will look for matches in both name and definition. Example queries to search keywords only by name:

name:nucleus
name:"protein synthesis"

Additional information

  • The document keywlist.txt lists all the keywords and a definition of their usage in UniProtKB.
