Signal recognition particle
| Definition | Protein of the signal recognition particle (SRP) which is a cytosolic ribonucleoprotein complex that induces elongation arrest of nascent presecretory and membrane proteins until the ribosome becomes associated with the rough endoplasmic reticulum. It consists of a 7S RNA and at least six polypeptide subunits. One of the SRP proteins (srp54) binds GTP and in association with 7S RNA and srp19 has GTPase activity. |
