General annotation (Comments)

Function

Catalyzes the covalent attachment of ubiquitin to other proteins. Capable, in vitro, to ubiquitinate histone H2A. Has a role in the negative regulation of gluconeogenesis. Required for proteosome-dependent catabolite degradation of fructose-1,6-bisphosphatase (FBPase).

Catalytic activity

ATP + ubiquitin + protein lysine = AMP + diphosphate + protein N-ubiquityllysine.

Pathway

Protein modification; protein ubiquitination.

Subcellular location

Cytoplasm.

Miscellaneous

Present with 1590 molecules/cell in log phase SD medium.

Sequence similarities

Belongs to the ubiquitin-conjugating enzyme family.
