General annotation (Comments)

Function

Specifically phosphorylates the activated forms of G protein-coupled receptors. GRK4-alpha can phosphorylate rhodopsin and its activity is inhibited by calmodulin; the other three isoforms do not phosphorylate rhodopsin and do not interact with calmodulin.

Catalytic activity

ATP + [G-protein-coupled receptor] = ADP + [G-protein-coupled receptor] phosphate.

Tissue specificity

Testis, and in a lower extent in other tissues including brain cortex and striatum.

Sequence similarities

Belongs to the protein kinase superfamily. AGC Ser/Thr protein kinase family. GPRK subfamily.

Contains 1 AGC-kinase C-terminal domain.

Contains 1 protein kinase domain.

Contains 1 RGS domain.

Alternative products

This entry describes 4 isoforms produced by alternative splicing. [Align] [Select]
Isoform 1 (identifier: P32298-1)

Also known as: GRK4-alpha; GRK4D;

This isoform has been chosen as the 'canonical' sequence. All positional information in this entry refers to it. This is also the sequence that appears in the downloadable versions of the entry.
Isoform 2 (identifier: P32298-2)

Also known as: GRK4-beta; GRK4C;

The sequence of this isoform differs from the canonical sequence as follows:
     18-49: Missing.
Isoform 3 (identifier: P32298-3)

Also known as: GRK4-delta; GRK4A;

The sequence of this isoform differs from the canonical sequence as follows:
     18-49: Missing.
     516-561: Missing.
Isoform 4 (identifier: P32298-4)

Also known as: GRK4-gamma; GRK4B;

The sequence of this isoform differs from the canonical sequence as follows:
     516-561: Missing.
