Required for a novel path of interorganelle communication between mitochondria, peroxisomes and the nucleus, thereby maintaining a functional metabolic interaction between the tricarboxylic acid and glyoxylate cycles. In particular, required for the retrograde expression of the peroxisomal isoform of citrate synthase, CIT2.
