General annotation (Comments)

Function

Required for the production of pyridoxine (vitamin B6). May be involved in growth arrest and cellular response to nutrient limitation. Required for growth in the presence of low level of intracellular pyridoxine.

Subunit structure

Interacts with YHR198C/FMP22.

Developmental stage

Shows increased synthesis after entry into stationary phase.

Miscellaneous

Defects in SNZ1 cause some sensibility to 6-azauracil, an inhibitor of purine and pyrimidine biosynthetic enzymes, and methylene blue, a producer of singlet oxygen. These effects are probably due to the inability to synthesize pyridoxine.
